ABOUT US

Choke Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was established in 2004. We are the most traditional BJJ organization in Denmark and the only group that is directly connected to the Gracie Family in Brazil and in the United States. In fact, when the Gracies come to Scandinavia they usually train and teach at our schools.

We have two schools - Copenhagen & Århus - and over 700 members.

Our founder and head instructor is Professor Joao Pedro Santos, who is a third degree black belt under 8th degree Carlson Gracie disciple Sergio "Bolao" Souza.

The name Choke is short, strong and relates directly to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. According to Grand Master Helio Gracie, it is also the most powerful move in Jiu-Jitsu . It was suggested by Morten Pedersen, one of our first students.

Our logo is evidently based on the traditional Gracie Academy logo that's been used in Brazil for almost a century. There are three equilateral triangles inside the circle. They represent balance and connection to our roots.

Choke BJJ at DJU Summer Camp

Chokeman

Back in July, Professor Joao Pedro Santos was a guest instructor at the summer camp promoted by the Dansk Judo og Ju-Jitsu Union (DJU) in the city of Skovlunde. This international event featured 17 instructors and over 200 students on the mats over four days. JP was in charge of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes which proved to be extremely popular with kids and adults alike. The program focused mostly on self-defense and it was a great opportunity for practitioners from different styles of Jiu-Jitsu to experience BJJ in its purest form.

The summer camp was a very fun event with lots of knowledge being exchanged in a very friendly envoironment. Big thanks to Mr. Simon Bank for promoting the event and inviting Choke to participate. We would also like to praise black belt instructors Bo Byvard, Claus Prier Tobiasen and Carsten Mortensen for their friendship and support during the classes. It wouldn't have been the same without these guys!
