Choke Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was established in 2004. We are the most traditional BJJ organization in Denmark and the only group that is directly connected to the Gracie Family in Brazil and in the United States. In fact, when the Gracies come to Scandinavia they usually train and teach at our schools.
We have two schools - Copenhagen & Århus - and over 700 members.
Our founder and head instructor is Professor Joao Pedro Santos, who is a third degree black belt under 8th degree Carlson Gracie disciple Sergio "Bolao" Souza.
The name Choke is short, strong and relates directly to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. According to Grand Master Helio Gracie, it is also the most powerful move in Jiu-Jitsu . It was suggested by Morten Pedersen, one of our first students.
Our logo is evidently based on the traditional Gracie Academy logo that's been used in Brazil for almost a century. There are three equilateral triangles inside the circle. They represent balance and connection to our roots.
We are looking forward for a weekend filled with testing ground for our hard work.

On May 4 we had the first class in our new Kids Program at Choke Copenhagen. That Monday it was the kids aged 5 to 9 that took over the mats and the next day it was the 10 to 14 year olds. So far the program has been a success and we experience a steady influx of kids to our program.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt and father of five Franck is in charge of the training for both age groups. He is always assisted by another adult to provide the best learning environment for the kids. He provides an environment that is both fun and educational, where he mixes both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and games.
The Kids Program runs Monday through Thursday from 16:00 to 16:45. Program is taught in danish, or if needed english.
This weekend, the night between Saturday and Sunday our beloved gym turned into something else. Pillows, a projector and good people turned the gym into a theater.
Franck getting comfortable watching the fights.
12 people were in attendance all night watching the fights in both the Brazilian event Copa Pódio and at Metamoris 6. It was a succesful social event in the gym, even though we had a slight hold up due to Franck and his lack of computer charger.
This weekend the 2015 edition of Danish Open BJJ was held at Frederiksborgcentret in Hillerød. The Choke team had several athletes entered from both Copenhagen and Århus. We racked up 5 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 5 Bronze medals.
Suk and Valentin on the podium after their fights in the Adult White Belt Featherweight division.
Saturday the colored belts battled it out. From Copenhagen we had Franck Hedehøj, Jonas Kose and Pablo Ortiz. From Århus Mugtaba, Vester, Nikolaj, Ehsan, Tommas, Nick and Christian. Vester dominated with Kimura submissions to take double gold in Ultra Heavyweight and Open Weight division Purple Master.
On Sunday the white belts went into action. Thomas and Marta from Århus took gold in their divisions. Suk submitted his opponent in the final to take the gold at featherweight. Valentin, Sébrina, Maxim and Iulian also fought.
