ABOUT US

Choke Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was established in 2004. We are the most traditional BJJ organization in Denmark and the only group that is directly connected to the Gracie Family in Brazil and in the United States. In fact, when the Gracies come to Scandinavia they usually train and teach at our schools.

We have two schools - Copenhagen & Århus - and over 700 members.

Our founder and head instructor is Professor Joao Pedro Santos, who is a third degree black belt under 8th degree Carlson Gracie disciple Sergio "Bolao" Souza.

The name Choke is short, strong and relates directly to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. According to Grand Master Helio Gracie, it is also the most powerful move in Jiu-Jitsu . It was suggested by Morten Pedersen, one of our first students.

Our logo is evidently based on the traditional Gracie Academy logo that's been used in Brazil for almost a century. There are three equilateral triangles inside the circle. They represent balance and connection to our roots.

Roger Gracie coming to Choke CPH in March

We are very happy to finally confirm the workshop with Roger Gracie in Copenhagen. This will be a Choke exclusive event to be held on Sunday, March 23rd at the beautiful Amager Judo Skole. Roger is an old friend of Professor Joao Pedro Santos back from when they both still lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Therefore we can all expect a very intimate and laid back atmosphere sharing the mats with a true Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend.

Arguably the greatest Jiu-Jitsu competitor the sport has ever seen with 10 consecutive world titles, Roger Gracie is known for his incredibly smooth technique and classic game. This will actually be his second time at Choke. His first visit was way back in 2005, right after winning the ADCC tournament submitting all his opponents. Needless to say that this event is not to be missed. Imagine playing football with Messi or golf with Tiger Woods? In our sport, this is pretty much as good as it gets.
